The Start
2021
Holding hands in shadowed light
You let go as I look into you
You blame it on the whispers and the wine
I blame it on your body close to mine
Your letting go of time
You shut the door
Through the night we close our eyes
You tell me now, that you cannot love
While your body falls into my hands
and we wake up to the morning light
We're letting go of time
You're going home
In twilight your kiss always drew me close
and blinded my still heart
and in the shadow work I see you fade
Into the midnight light
and all the memories I burn them slow, the incense of my heart
and in the evening when your eyes are closed
I'll be gone
In twilight your kiss always drew me close
and blinded my still heart
and in the shadow work I see you fade
Into the midnight light
and all the memories I burn them slow, the incense of my heart
and in the evening when your eyes are closed
I'll be gone
A failed relationship - the timing, the emotions, the moments in time were not in alignment. As they say a learning process, a growth opportunity - but in the end it was a song written about starting and healing and ... moving on
A Thousand Days
2018
Hey, won’t you walk this way
Let me feel you close
Let me kiss your lips
For a thousand days
Hey, won’t you come my way
Let me close your eyes
Let me steal your breath
In a thousand ways
In my arms we will
Take the leap into
Vastness of the sky
Smallness of the self
Hey, Hey, Hey
In our minds we will
Be a part of all
And the sun will shine
And the moon will rise
Hey, Hey, Hey
Hey, veo to cuerpo ahi
Esperandome con to amor y piel
Como flor de Avril
En un mar de luz
Bajo cielo azul
Convirtiendonos
En un dia sin fin Hey, Hey, Hey
Written for a past girlfriend, I wanted to show a side of love where the possibilities are endless, "vastness" "part of all" while keeping this reality grounded in my recent Buddhist readings "smallness of the self"
As I was toying with a more rocking beat using Garage Band (I had to absolutely recreate it in my own fashion), I introduced a 2 step rhythm which reminded me of some traditional Mexican songs I grew up with and it definitely evoked the longing for the partnership as well as the knowing that we are so small in this infinite universe that it's hard to tell what matters
The Spanish lyrics, loosely translate to - I see your body there // waiting for me with your love and skin // like an April flower // In a sea of light // under blue skies // converting us // into a day without end
Shine In Me
2019
You are a shooting star you are
You hide it oh you hide it oh so well
Behind your quiet eyes
Your silence, you keep the light that’s shinning everywhere
You open up your arms you feed the light
You feed the sun in every way
You’ve traveled for so long so quietly
You’ve missed the love you see in me
Shine in me
Shine in me
You walk among us everyday, the flowers and the wind they go your way
At night you shine above us, you shine above us like the star you are today
Written for a past girlfriend 2019, she reminded me of a star birther a creator of life (as a mother she absolutely is). The lyrics wrote themselves watching her "quiet eyes and silence". I wanted to evoke some melancholy and strength into the sound, reminding me of her gentle quietness
Silver Lining
2020
The empty streets and quiet nights outside my window
I see the breaking rays of light without a story
The April rains will clear my mind of doubts and worries
The gentle humming of the earth will whisper to me
And the silver lining’s Gold, And the Silver lining’s gold
AAAHHH x 4
I see your picture black and white in all your glory
You image lives inside my mind, in bright hued orange
We walk along a quiet path, inhale the morning
And in the space between the day …. You say
I started with the music in February of 2020 once COVID hit and we were home bound, I worked on lyrics until I finally sat down and wrote down what I had been experiencing with "the empty streets and quite nights" - surreal for Long Beach where playing out at clubs, coffee shops and gathering with friends was my (and I'm sure everyone's escape)
It's my isolation song but I knew the chorus would have the hopeful - Silver Lining's being gold - because in all honesty they are, our silver linings are more than what we make them to be.
Sonrisa
1996
Encerrado en mi cuarto me dijiste
quieres vivir conmigo
si perdon nos da el tiempo
muchas vidas viviremos
imaginando en mi mente
que no estas, no podre vivir
sin tenerte en mi
sin tu alma abrasar
y si veo en tus ojos un llanto
solo y desesperado
pondre mis manos en tu frente
y te dormire, y no podre sentir
si no estas en mi
sin tu alma abrasar
Y después de jugar tus juegos
amaneces enamorada de mi
ya no estare alli
y no podras vivir...
This one takes me back (I have plenty of those songs) - I was happily married at the time to Ana and the lyrics reflect that, "si perdon nos da el tiempo muchas vidas viviremos" loosely translated - if time forgives us we'll live many lives.
I wanted to add a bit of drama in the end but it was more story telling than actual life
Enjoyed a few years of playing this song with my first Spanish Rock band - Acanalar which literally means "to groove", but if you say Acanalar to a Spanish speaker it is a literal canal, like farmland canal so doesn't translate well into Spanish :)
